Meet your Doula,
Lynn Christensen

I’m Lynn Christensen. I am a doula*, a lactation counselor**, and a childbirth educator***.

I fell in love with labor in 2002 and have been working with birthing families ever since.  Over 700 births later, I am still head over heels and passionate about what I do.  Birth is transformative and unforgettable and it is my great privilege to share this time in life with the families I serve.  Above all, I bring non-judgmental support, evidence-based information, a calming presence, and experience so my clients make informed decision.

In addition to my credentials, I have had extensive training through the years including 10-days at The Farm (Summertown, TN) with Ina May Gaskin (Midwife’s Assistant Training); Advanced Labor Support Techniques; Strategies for Back Labor; Spinning Babies; HypnoBirthing for Doulas; Homeopathy; Aromatherapy for the Laboring Woman; Optimal Fetal Positioning; TENS-Unit in Labor; Infant and Adult CPR; and more.  I have supported labors at 30+ hospitals throughout the metro NYC area.  I have experience with twin births as well as with women who have experienced traumatic or difficult births, for whom I am told that I have a special touch.

A native Oregonian, my studies brought me east (Colgate University, Columbia University) where I studied Russian Literature.  I am the mother of two college-age daughters. When I’m not supporting laboring families, enjoying prenatal visits, and holding newborns, I can be found baking bread, canning peaches, and training my dogs.

* DONA-certified doula

** Certified Lactation Counselor, through the Healthy Children’s Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice

*** Lamaze-certified childbirth educator

I could not have gone through the 30+ hours of labor at home without Lynn. Lynn was so supportive and encouraging, helping me through every contraction at home and at the hospital. I literally don’t know how I would have done it without Lynn!

I loved the little touches Lynn provides: the birth story book, week by week letters, teas, sitz bath, etc… She takes so much time and thought into what she does and it makes you feel very special and important to her.

I can’t say enough about how much Lynn helped not only with my wife but with my anxiety as well, having a steady hand that kept us all calm and focused on what needed to happen.
— C.L. (father)
Having a supportive hand (and a calm one!) was crucial to use to help establish breastfeeding.
— C.H. (mother)
Your sound advice and encouragement helped us through all 39 hours of labor!
— M.M. (mother)
Lynn, you have a wonderful and glorious energy that I was lucky enough to have present on the most important day of my life! Your calm, encouraging words gave me exactly what I needed to have a wonderful delivery!
